Run your hand across freshly washed paint. If it feels rough, that's bonded contamination a wash can't remove. A clay bar, clay towel, or clay mitt pulls it off and leaves your paint smooth as glass. It also helps wax and sealants last longer.

How to choose the right clay bar or clay towel

  • Clay bar: the classic option. Very precise, but you have to knead it, and if you drop it, you have to throw it away.
  • Clay towel and clay mitt: a clay layer on microfiber that covers more area, faster. Clean it with a spray of clay lube and a gentle wipe.
  • ULTRA Clay Scrubber: combines clay with a scrubber to remove bugs, bonded contaminants, and light overspray while covering more area. You can also drop it in your wash bucket to break down bug buildup.
  • Clay kits: the ULTRA Clay Kit and Clay Bar Starter Kit include clay, lubricant, and microfiber towels, so you have everything to get started.

How to clay your car

Always use a clay lube or quick detailer so the clay glides. Work small sections and wipe with a clean microfiber towel. For heavy contamination, use an iron remover first. See every step in how to wash, clay, and seal your car, and remove tough spots with our guide to removing tree sap.
