OH NO!! I Washed My Microfiber Towels Wrong...Are They RUINED? | FAQ
Jun 28, 2025
We cannot stress enough how important it is to wash microfiber products ONLY with other microfiber products.
But we are all human, and we make mistakes. So, what happens if your microfiber products get washed with other fabrics like cotton?
The short answer, as Levi explains: Yes, they are ruined for car detailing. But not all hope is lost.
Microfibers are experts at grabbing onto and removing whatever they can reach, which is why they are so great for rinseless washes, polish & compound removal<>, car detailing, and general cleaning. So, when your microfiber catches a stray piece of cotton in the wash or lint in the dryer, it will hold onto it for dear life. If you want to wash your car with a cotton lint-filled Eagle Edgeless or Rip N Rag, there is a likelihood you could scratch your car's paint or trap the lint beneath a protectant spray like Defender.
You can pull out the strands and re-wash your microfiber with a clear, non-scented laundry detergent, or with a microfiber-specific detergent such as Rags to Riches. Still, there is no guarantee that you will be able to get all of the extra fibers out of the microfiber strands. Therefore, the best thing to do is to use these towels for general cleaning around the house or in the garage. Let them live out the rest of their service lives cleaning surfaces that are harder and more scratch-resistant than car paint.
If you need to replace your detailing microfibers after accidentally washing them with other fabrics, you can always replenish your stock here at The Rag Company.
